Each year, Helen Bumpus Gallery awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating Duxbury senior to encourage continued study in the visual arts. While enrollment in a college degree program is not necessary, the study must be part of a recognized/certified course. Applicants are not required to attend the local high school, but they must be residents of Duxbury.

Scholarship applications are available from the Duxbury High School Guidance Department or by downloading the form HERE.

All applicants are asked to write a brief description of their art training, interests and future plans. Images of three current pieces of artwork also are required; links to a personal website or Instagram page are welcome.

Completed forms should be delivered to DHS Guidance, attached in an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or mailed to Helen Bumpus Gallery, P.O. Box 174, Duxbury, MA 02331-0174.

The Helen Bumpus Gallery’s Board of Directors reviews each scholarship application. Selection of the awardee is based on information and images provided by the student. Comments received from the candidate’s teachers also are considered.

The Helen Bumpus Gallery Annual Scholarship is presented during the annual Duxbury High School Senior Awards Night.

The Board of Directors presents the annual Conant Award in special recognition of an  artist whose exemplary work was exhibited in the Gallery during the previous year.   This award was established by a donation from Esther Conant to honor her friend, Helen Bumpus.
